RAINY DAY DETOX SMOOTHIE

Baby Kale, Banana, Blueberry, Raspberry, Strawberry, Vega Protein Powder, Spirulina Powder, Maca Powder, Hemp Powder, Chia Seed, Flax Seed and Coconut Flakes.

After drinking my morning lemon water, I was going into the fridge for the Tofu to make a Sunny Day Scramble until I saw how crappy it was outside. Then I thought, Rainy Day Detox instead. Since antioxidants are crucial in detoxifying, Blueberries were going to be high on the list…packed with vitamin K and C and Fiber, these berries are one of the best antioxidants you can eat (organic – fresh or frozen). Antioxidants can help fight aging and slow cancer growth by killing harmful free radical molecules in your body and since we’re using 3 varieties antioxidant rich berries, this Smoothie is a free radical fighting powerhouse. In addition to all the vitamins and minerals these berries have, they are also a great source of fiber which is very important in detoxing. The berries along with the Chia and Flax Seeds will help move things in the right direction (pun intended) while the enormous energy provided by the proteins in the Vega, Spirulina, Maca and Hemp Powders will keep your body moving as well. This recipe will make 2 small or 1 large serving (about 16oz).

8 – 10 oz of Filtered Water
1 large handful of Baby Kale leaves
1 frozen Banana
1 Cup Frozen Blueberries
1/2 Cup Frozen Raspberries
1/2 Cup Frozen Strawberries
1 scoop Vega Smoothie Powder (Vanilla or Berry)
1 tsp Spirulina Powder
2 tsp Hemp Powder
1 – 1 1/2 tsp Maca Root Powder
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
1 Tbsp Flax Seed or Flax Meal
1 small handful of Coconut Flakes

Add 8oz of filtered water to your blender along with the fresh kale. Blend on “liquify” setting for about 1 minute (or until the consistency is just green water). Now add in your frozen fruits and blend on “Crush Ice” setting until it sounds as if there is nothing being crushed anymore and then switch to “liquify” setting (about another 1-2 minutes). Add in the Chia Seeds, Flax Seeds, Spirulina, Maca, Hemp, Vega Protein and half of the Coconut Flakes. Blend (on liquify setting) one more time for another 1-2 minutes. Pour into a large, tall glass. Sprinkle the rest of the Coconut Flakes on your finished Smoothie. CLEAN UP BEFORE DRINKING (this reenforces good habits and a new regimen).
