Tom’s Chocolate Orange Breakfast Shake!

Hemp Milk, Banana, Valencia Orange, Mango, Justin’s Maple Almond Butter, Vega Choc-a-lot Protein, Cacao Powder, Chia Seed and Oats

Today I was standing in the kitchen pondering a breakfast smoothie. While, “zoning out” and staring in the cupboards, I remembered a tasty combination of flavors that my friend Tom mentioned a while back. A couple years ago, he was at our house eating some of my wife’s cupcakes and was trying to encourage her to make Chocolate Orange cupcakes. Interestingly enough, I hadn’t really thought much about that flavor combo until it randomly popped into my head this morning. It had to be chocolaty, creamy, nutty and rich…but with just enough of a bright citrus zing sitting right on top of it. The taste is AMAZING and almost seems like a decadent dessert. But I can assure you that the nutritional content in this smoothie could definitely take you through lunch if you had to keep on truckin’! The protein level on it’s own is off the charts given the Hemp Milk, Vega, Almond Butter, Chia Seed and Oats. In addition, you’re gonna get plenty of Vitamins A, B6, D & C, Calcium, Iron, Fiber and Omegans (essential fats). This really is a complete breakfast in a glass.

8 oz Hemp Milk
1 Frozen Banana
1 Valencia Orange (peeled and segmented)
1 handful frozen Mango Chunks
1 scoop Vega Protein (Choc-a-Lot)
1 1.15oz squeeze pack of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter
1 Tbsp Cacao Powder
1 Tbsp Chia Seeds
1/2 Cup of “Quick” Oats (uncooked)

Pour Hemp Milk into the blender along with the frozen fruits and Orange segments. Blend on crush ice setting until cracking stops…then blend on liquify for about 40 secs. Add in the remaining ingredients. Blend again on liquify setting about 1 minute. Pour into a large, tall glass. CLEAN UP BEFORE DRINKING (this reenforces good habits and a new regimen). Enjoy!

Don’t forget to check out all of the great plant-based, whole food products from Vega. Their smoothie powders are delicious, nutritious, animal-free and are the foundation for all of my smoothie recipes.

Enjoy your smoothie w/ your favorite straw; although, for Earth’s sake, I recommend a glass one from Glass Dharma
