The “Bitter Blend” Smoothie

WATER, GRAPEFRUIT, BANANA, PINEAPPLE, GOJI BERRIES, VEGA ONE PROTEIN, MACA ROOT, FLAX MEAL, CHIA SEEDS.

I looked in my fridge today and was met with a familiar stare; an organic Grapefruit that I’ve been avoiding for over a week or so. Normally, I’m not a huge fan of the tart bitterness of the Grapefruit. I’ve juiced with them before and lets just say they aren’t my favorite. Although, with the season of colds, infections and viruses upon us, I knew I’d need to bump up my Vitamin C levels. One whole fruit pretty much “overdoses” you with your daily requirement of Vitamin C. It’s also got a ton of Vitamin A as well as Calcium, Magnesium and a host of other minerals. Boasting high levels of lycopene and beta-carotene (in the Pink/Red variety), Grapefruit is really an antioxidant powerhouse! Fighting cancer causing free-radicals, controlling blood pressure, aiding in weight loss, preventing asthma, improving digestion, improving skin and hydrating your body are all pretty impressive benefits of the Grapefruit. There isn’t any “wonder drug” that can claim all of that and a Grapefruit doesn’t have any side effects that I’m aware of 😉 So pucker up and suck it down…this Smoothie will contribute to your wellness.

8 oz Filtered Water
1 Frozen Banana
1 Pink/Red Grapefruit (peeled but keep some pith)
1 small handful of Frozen Pineapple Chunks
1 small handful of Dried Goji Berries
1 scoop of Vega One (French Vanilla) Protein
1 Tbsp Maca Powder
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
1 Tbsp Flax Meal

Pour Water into the blender along with the fruits and berries. Blend on crush ice setting until cracking stops…then blend on liquify for about 40 secs. Add in the all remaining ingredients. Blend again on liquify setting about 1 minute. If too thick, you can always adjust by adding more water. Pour into a large, tall glass. CLEAN UP BEFORE DRINKING (this reenforces good habits and a new regimen). Enjoy!

Enjoy your smoothie w/ your favorite straw; although, for Earth’s sake, I recommend a glass one from Glass Dharma http://glassdharma.com.
