ALMOND MILK, KALE, BANANA, PEAR, LIME JUICE, AVOCADO, MATCHA POWDER, VEGA ONE PROTEIN, FLAX & CHIA SEED
I thought about this one all morning before finally making it. I needed a “wake up call” before my bike ride and was pondering a cup of coffee. But after drinking my lemon water, I thought better of it. I had just bought Matcha powder the other day and had been wondering about using it in a smoothie, since I’d already made a “Green Tea Latte” with it the other day. Matcha powder comes from the WHOLE leaf of the Camellia Sinensis plant, whereas “Green Tea” is just the water which is brewed from it. The nutritional and antioxidant benefits from Matcha are 10 times that of Green Tea per serving! It’s an energy booster, detoxifier and calorie burner all in one. It has a mild, earthy sweetness to it that I enjoy very much. For this smoothie, I pondered the pairings as all being somewhat mellow flavors (pear, banana, avocado) as well, but then giving it just a bit of zing to contrast (lime). When I went to snap a shot of this puppy, I realized how close of a green shade it was to my wife’s car…hence, it MATCHA’d………I’m so sorry, I just had to 😉
12 oz Almond Milk (or other Nut Milk)
1 large handful of Baby Kale
1 Frozen Banana
1 Pear (peeled and cored)
Juice of 1 Lime
1 tsp Matcha Powder
1 scoop of Vega One (French Vanilla) Protein
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
1 Tbsp Flax Meal
4-5 Ice Cubes
Pour Almond Milk into the blender along with the Baby Kale. Blend on liquify for about 40 secs. Add in Banana, Pear, Avocado, Lime juice and Ice Cubes. Blend crush ice setting until cracking stops…then blend again on liquify setting for about 30-40 secs. If too thick, you can always adjust by adding more Almond Milk. Add Matcha, Vega, Chia and Flax and blend one more time on liquify until very smooth. Pour into a large, tall glass. CLEAN UP BEFORE DRINKING (this reenforces good habits and a new regimen). Enjoy!
