After all of these years of eating healthy and creating smoothie recipes, I’ve not once tried a Persimmon…until now, that is. I finally found them at my local health market and had to give it a try. If you’re not familiar with what a Persimmon is, well it looks kind of like a Tomato but tastes very similar to an Apricot. It’s actually a type of berry packed with phytonutrients, antioxidants, flavonoids as well as both Vitamin A and C.
There are two varieties (astringent and non-astringent). The one you want to go for is the non-astringent, Fuyu…which is orange in color and has a nice ripe, fleshy inside. When blended, I found that it creates a very pleasing creamy texture; so much so that I did not include a Banana in this recipe. A ripe Fuyu packs a nice sweet punch in addition to being a great source of fiber, so I figured adding Banana would be an overkill. That said, for those of you who aren’t into adding Banana to every smoothie you drink, you’re gonna love this one.
To round out the flavors and truly make this an immune-boosting delight, I paired the Persimmon along with Clementine and Ginger Root which helps cut the round sweetness with a tangy spice. And adding in some Coconut Manna gives it that extra creamy texture while providing a great source of fat to help absorb the nutrients.
And if all of this wasn’t enough to awaken your tastebuds, I added a Vanilla protein powder to meld all these great flavors together. I used my personal favorite, Vanilla Vega Sport Performance Protein, simply because my constant workouts require an ample amount of recovery and the Vega line of sport products help me do this. That said, you don’t have to use Vega Sport. Vega has many other Vanilla powders to fit everyone’s individual needs…quite honsestly, I’ve tried every single one of them so I know they’d all work great in this recipe too 😉 You can check those out at MyVega.
Persimmon Paradise Smoothie (1 serving)
- 1 Cup Coconut Milk (or other plant-based milk)
- 1 serving Vega Sport Performance Protein – Vanilla (or any other Vanilla variety)
- 1 ripe Fuyu Persimmon (Calyx/Cap removed)
- 1 Clementine (unpeeled)
- 1 thumb-sized chunk of Ginger Root (peeled)
- 1 Tbsp Coconut Manna (manna/butter or whole pulverized Coconut)
- 1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
- 1 Tbsp Chia Seed
Add all of the ingredients into a high speed blender and process on high speed until smooth. If desired, add ice and blend again for a frostier texture. Pour and sprinkle with shredded Coconut and Cinnamon. Enjoy!

8 oz Califia Farms XX Espresso Cold Brew Almond Milk
1 tsp Om Mushrooms Immune Mushroom powder
1 tsp Om Mushrooms Chaga powder
2 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder
4 Dates (pitted)
3 Tbsp Hemp Seeds
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
30 drops Astragalus Extract
Blend on high speed until smooth. Pour and enjoy.
What better way than to wake up than with a sweet, creamy coffee with 30g of plantbased protein? Not only is this also great for an anytime pick-me-up but it also comes in handy as a postworkout recovery shake as well. And if you’re tired of cold smoothies in these chilly months of autumn, heat your plant milk first for a warm decadent treat.

1 serving Vanilla Vega Sport Performance Protein
3-4 Dates (pitted)
1 tsp Ground Cinnamon
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
Cold Version (shown):

Add the Banana, Dates, Cinnamon and Chia Seed to a high speed blender. Heat the cold brew (hahaha) on low/medium in a small saucepan on your stovetop just until small bubbles begin to form; then carefully pour into the blender jar along with the other ingredients. Blend on low setting first, slowly working up to high. Blend until smooth. Pour into a large mug and enjoy!
So you just “hit the wall” after pushing yourself hard during this morning’s workout. You’re looking to get some energy back and recover so you can do it all again tomorrow. Am I getting warm? Well, look no further! This smoothie has got all the tricks of the trade when it comes to post-workout fuel!
Coconut Water helps hydrate and replace lost electrolytes, while the Banana and Maple Syrup restores some carbohydrate (for muscle glycogen). The Vega Sport, Avocado and seeds bring in the protein, Omega fatty acids, anti-inflammatory properties, BCAAs and Glutamine which are all vital in helping repair and build new muscle fiber.
But why the Green Coffee Powder, you ask? Well, coffee not only adds a deep flavor which compliments the Chocolate but green coffee also provides a low dose of caffeine (about half of a standard cup of coffee); which not only provides a nice gradual boost of energy but has been shown to help athletes recover quicker!

One of my all time favorite smoothie blends has Coconut Milk Yogurt, fresh berries and Lime. Theres just something about that combo that my tastebuds really love. The “yogurt” creates a beautiful, creamy texture while supplying your gut with some healthy live, active cultures. Of course, Limes throw in a bit of contrast with their zingy flavor…plus their great for your skin and digestion. And don’t even get me started on fresh berries. They are the world’s most perfect food; packed with an insane amount of nutrients, carotenoids and flavonoids. What does that mean?! It means their an antioxidant powerhouse and a nightmare for free radicals which damage your cells.
1 scoop Vanilla or Berry Vega Sport Performance Protein
1/2 cup Unsweetened Coconut Milk
1 5.3 oz container So Delicious Blueberry “Yogurt” Alternative
2 cups Baby Spinach
1 frozen Banana
1 cup frozen Mixed Berries
1 lime (juice and zest only)
Shredded Coconut (to garnish)
1. Blend the Coconutmilk, “Yogurt” Alternative and Spinach until greens are fully broken down.
2. Add all other ingredients and blend again until smooth.
3. Pour into a glass, garnish with shredded Coconut and enjoy!
Yes…you heard that right. Hot Chocolate that is not only decadently delicious but a nutritional powerhouse as well. Nope, you can’t get it at Starbucks or Dunkin’ Donuts. But what you can do is empower yourself to reject the convenient, nutrient deficient beverages that fast food companies market at you. Instead, buy a handful of healthy ingredients and make your own creamy, cozy mug of hot chocolate; fully knowing that it is serving your body and mind on a much higher level. The no-brainer ingredient here will be Cacao; I mean…you can’t make chocolate without it! But one of my favorite ingredients to add to this recipe are dates! So plump, juicy and chewy. I use them in everything from smoothies to spreads (and everything in-between).
But how else can we upgrade our hot chocolate? Well, I know an easy way that will also provide you with 20 grams of premium plant-based protein, 6 servings of greens, 50% DV vitamins and minerals, 25% DV fiber, 1.5 grams of Omega-3s, a slew of antioxidants and 1 billion CFU Probiotics. Whaaaat?!?!? No joke, it’s called Vega One! For a couple years now, it has been my go-to when I need to get in my daily nutrition “on the go”. It’s perfect in smoothies, nice creams, oatmeal bowls…and now in superfood tonics!
If you put these excellent, plant-based ingredients together you can’t go wrong. And just because this hot chocolate doesn’t come in a quick packet or will not be handed to you from a drive-thru window, doesn’t mean it’s not worth your time. These days, you can’t afford NOT to treat your body right! Don’t be afraid to carve out a few extra minutes in the morning for this truly wonderful mug of goodness.
What you’ll need:
10 oz Heated Almond Milk
4 pitted Dates (any variety – but I LOVE Khadrawy)
1 scoop Vega One Nutritional Shake (Chocolate)
2 Tbsp Raw Cacao Powder
1 Tbsp Pure Maple Syrup
How to do it:
In a small saucepan, heat up your Almond Milk on medium/low heat (stirring often) just until bubbles begin to form. Now switch the heat to low and toss the pitted dates in there to soak for a few minutes (this helps soften them further for blending). While the dates are soaking, get out your blender and add the Vega One, Cacao and Maple Syrup. Now turn off the burner and gently pour the hot Almond Milk and Dates into the blender as well. Place lid on tightly and securely. Begin blending on low speed, gradually increasing to high. Blend until smooth. Pour into large mug and enjoy!
