Pumpkin, Butternut Squash, Carrot, Ginger, Almond Milk, Banana, Vega One Chocolate, Chocolate Hazelnut Butter, Cacao Powder, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Allspice, Flax Meal and Chia Seed
This smoothie is very near and dear to me. Halloween is right around the corner and I’m the kind of dude that has a little “darkness” inside! I based this one off of my recent “Pumpkin Pie Smoothie” but took it to a bolder level. It has subtle sweetness with just a hint of bitter chocolate. The flavors in here are rich, complex and have just the right amount of spicy kick to tame the beast within. I’ve been using some extracted juices in my smoothies lately, to not only infuse the flavors but to allow myself a broader spectrum of ingredients but without all of the dense pulp that comes with them; the less pulp, the cleaner the digestion and easier absorption of the nutrients. I save all of the pulp to use in soups later! Rich in vitamins a & c, protein, fiber, beta-carotene and potassium this smoothie is a weight loss starter, cancer fighter, immune booster and electrolyte replenisher all in one glass. So, don’t be afraid…tap into your dark side and take a healthy gulp of this ghoulish goodness!
Extracted Juice (8 oz) of 1 1/2 cups Butternut Squash, 1 Carrot, 1″ of Ginger Root (save pulp for soup!)
4 oz Almond Milk (or other nut milk)
1/4 Cup Organic Pumpkin Puree (from can)
1 Frozen Banana
1.5 oz On the Go Packet Vega One Chocolate
1 1.15oz packet of Justin’s Chocolate Hazelnut Butter
1 Tbsp Cacao
1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1/4 tsp Nutmeg
1/4 tsp Allspice
1 Tbsp Chia Seed
1 Tbsp Flax Meal
3 or 4 Ice Cubes
With a juicer, extract the juice of the Butternut Squash, Carrot and Ginger; you should end up with around 8 oz of juice. Set pulp aside for using in soup. In your blender, pour in the juice, Almond Milk, Frozen Banana, Pumpkin Puree with all of the other ingredients (except ice). Pulse a few times and then blend on liquify for about 40 secs or until nice and smooth. Add in the ice cubes, then blend again on the ice crush setting until ice has stopped cracking. Pour into a large, tall glass. CLEAN UP BEFORE DRINKING (this reenforces good habits and a new regimen). Enjoy!
